The Perfect Anaheim

$600.00

When you grow your own food, you discover the deep interconnection between human care for the earth, the seasonal cycles and pollinator insects that make it possible to eat a delicious and healthy diet. This artwork celebrates that moment when a perfectly ripened Anaheim pepper becomes more than produce. It becomes a testament to the care you put into nurturing life from seed to harvest. Created through an innovative mixed media technique, this limited edition artwork combines digital photography with acrylic paint and image transfer on aluminum to evoke the warm, rich tones of historic tintypes. The vintage aesthetic honors the legacy of victory gardens, when Americans grew their own food and understood their direct connection to the earth. Subtle elements of the contemporary urban environment remind you that this tradition of growing and eating seasonal healthy food is as vital today as it was generations ago.

The texture of the glossy eggplant, the patterns on the sugar baby melon, and this lovely curved Anaheim inspired me to create “The Perfect Anaheim” in the light of the late afternoon. The Anaheim chili pepper is named for the California city of Anaheim. The peppers originated in New Mexico, where they are still grown in different versions. However, they were brought to the city of Anaheim in Southern California in 1894 and grown commercially by Emilio Ortega, and remain highly popular today. If you have not tried growing or buying it, I recommend this variety for its mild spice and great flavor.
