Craft, Materials & Process FAQ

  • That means that the materials are ph neutral and rated to last at least 100 years, and often longer.

  • This is a print type guaranteed to last 125+ years if it is protected from exposure to ultraviolet light and framed with archival materials.

  • Giclee is another term used to refer to archival pigment ink prints.

  • Ivana uses the advanced Epson SureColor printing technology to ensure every image maintains the finest details and most vibrant hues. This technology includes Epson’s PrecisionCore® MicroTFP printhead and UltraChrome® PRO12 Ink system, which enables Ivana to reach a 99% Pantone® color gamut for the most accurate color reproduction. The result is a print that captures the full spectrum of colors in Ivana’s photography, with exceptional depth, dimension, and clarity.

  • Ivana selects Moab Entrada Natural for its sustainability, archival quality and superior print reproduction. Entrada is an archival acid- and lignin-free paper with an expanded color gamut, natural contrast and high ink load

  • Ivana uses Moab Entrada Natural paper to make archival pigment ink prints because it is made from cotton fibers reclaimed as a byproduct of the textile and cottonseed oil manufacturing processes. The paper is produced in a wind-powered plant in Moab, Utah. Ivana also selects a 65% recycled fiber cotton paper for her cyanotype, plant pigment prints and mixed media artworks. She grows an organic dye garden of plants she uses to produce some of her artworks. Dye infused aluminum prints are made on recycled aluminum. She also offers sustainably produced frames made from North American hardwood.

  • This is a print produced from a digital file on light sensitive paper that is processed in photographic chemistry. Archival prints made on select papers by Fuji and Kodak are rated for 100 years.

  • This is a dye sublimation print. It is a technology that makes the print waterproof, scratch resistant and somewhat resistant to fading as long as the artwork does not receive any direct sunlight.  Expect this print type to last 60-100 years. It is recyclable at its end of life.

  • The substrates they are made on are archival.  The digital image transfers are made on top of acrylic artist’s paint, which is an archival medium. The digital image transfers are Epson archival pigment inks transferred over the mixed media surface. These artworks are coated with a UV light protective spray.

  • The plant pigment prints, also known as botanical prints are direct impressions upon archival cotton paper. Using mordants, heat and steam Ivana transfers the dyes inherent in the plants into the paper.  Vegetable dyes are more sensitive to fading. That said, she is using plants that have been known by dyers for millennia to be lightfast. In fact she is using many of the same dye plants used to dye the medieval tapestries hanging in the cloisters. These works need to be protected from UV light exposure, just like the tapestries.  That is why Ivana frames them with UV filtering plexiglass and recommends collectors do the same.

  • A cyanotype is a 19th century light sensitive photographic print process. It uses a handmade iron based emulsion that is hand coated on cotton paper. To make an image, a photographic negative is placed upon the dried emulsion. The image must be exposed to ultraviolet light and then developed in a mild acid such as citric acid or vinegar solution. After that, it is washed to return it to a neutral pH, and then dried. As long as the prints are protected from exposure to ultraviolet light, after they’re finished, they should have more than 100 years archival rating. There are prints that were made in the 1860s that still look great today.  It’s recommended to display these types of prints and all artwork on paper under UV filtering, glass or plexiglass.  Cyanotypes must be framed with pH neutral materials that do not contain any alkaline buffering, as this can cause fading.

Limited Editions

  • While most artworks are available in extremely limited quantity editions, Ivana selects a few artworks to make available in larger editions so that more people can enjoy her artworks.

  • An artist proof is a copy of a limited edition print series that the artist keeps for her private collection. If an edition sells out, she may choose to sell it at a later date.

  • If a limited edition is marked as tiered, that means that the amount a collector will invest to acquire a print will go up as the edition gets closer to selling out.

Shipping & Insurance

  • Small artworks under 11” x 14” are usually shipped in a box.  Large unframed artwork on paper is placed into an archival plastic sleeve and rolled to ship in a sturdy cardboard tube.  Framed artwork is shipped usually in cardboard boxes, but some very large sizes or delicate materials may require crating. Crating is offered at an additional charge and you should expect higher shipping costs because crates are made of wood which increases the weight significantly.

  • Shipping insurance is not automatically included for artworks and art imprinted products when you checkout on the website.  It is highly recommended that you add insurance for the full value of the purchase because if an item is damaged in transit you will be eligible for free replacement if the item is insured. (In the case of unique artworks, it may not be possible to precisely recreate the exact same artwork. You will be given the option to get a refund or get a credit to collect a similar work.) If it is not insured, you are not eligible for free replacement of the artwork.  You can add insurance by sending a message to Ivana to request the insurance quote. She will get a quote for you and send you an invoice to pay for the insurance.

Terms of Sale

  • Color matching can only be achieved if you are calibrating your screen with a colorimeter, color display calibration software, and the display device can display 100% of Adobe RGB color space. That is what Ivana uses to achieve color matching for her digital prints. That said, most customers don’t have that capacity and are viewing the artworks on an uncalibrated screen. Because of that, as a term of sale you acknowledge and understand that colors as seen on a computer monitor may not look the same as the colors as they appear on Ivana’s artworks and manufactured products, and (b) no guarantee is made that any image as seen online will necessarily match exactly the colors on the final product.

  • You, the Client, are solely responsible for any state, local, or federal sales, use, VAT, excise, import fees, or other taxes. Generally, when Seller is required to collect such taxes from buyers, we will include such amounts in the Order. If for some reason such taxes are not included in the Order, and Seller is later required to pay them to any taxing authority, we will look to the Client for prompt reimbursement.

  • Most orders are custom orders, except for artworks labeled as unique. Production of the purchased work(s) begins immediately after purchase, and shipment will occur as soon as possible after production is complete. In light of the substantial production costs incurred once production has begun, any request to cancel an order or otherwise modify the produced artwork (e.g., increasing or reducing print size, changing image, etc.) will be subject to a 25% restocking fee.

  • As fine art can be fragile, you must inspect the Artwork immediately upon receipt. If the Artwork is damaged or does not otherwise conform with the Order, Client must provide Ivana with written notification no later than seven (7) days after receipt of the Artwork. Otherwise, the Artwork is deemed to be accepted.

  • All information submitted by you in connection with any order is governed by our Privacy Policy.
