She Was Heckled by Bluejays

$600.00

Can you recall a moment when you're picking raspberries and you pop one in your mouth, savoring that burst of sweetness while birds scold you from nearby branches? This artwork depicts that playful tension between you and the birds, both vying for the same ripe fruit. It celebrates the intimate pleasure of tasting fresh berries straight from the cane while you hear bluejays protesting loudly overhead. A single perfect blackberry rests on the lips, surrounded by raspberry leaves and berries. The composition is intimate and timeless. You can almost feel the slight give and taste that berry's tart sweetness bursting onto your tongue.

Created through an innovative mixed media technique, this unique artwork combines digital photography with acrylic paint and image transfer on aluminum. The warm sepia tones evoke a vintage aesthetic. The soft focus and monochromatic palette create something both sensual and nostalgic. It honors an era when people understood the simple pleasure of eating what you grow.

I was inspired to create the artwork because I noticed that every morning when I would pick the raspberries in my garden, that the neighborhood blue jays would perch over my head on the power lines, and make a huge racket! It was as if they were yelling at me, “Those are our raspberries! Go Away!” My pose was a bit of a taunt back at them! This artwork expresses the sensual enjoyment of the fruits of the garden. The raspberries are one of my favorite annual treats. I hope you can imagine their sweet tart flavor bursting in your mouth when you enjoy this artwork!
