Ash Gourd, Leek and Pepper Harvest in September
Ash Gourd, Leek and Pepper Harvest in September
There's a special kind of contentment that comes from tending a garden and gathering what you've grown. You can almost feel the sun on your shoulders and the satisfying weight of the harvest basket. This photograph expresses how growing your own food creates both nourishment and deep satisfaction.
A woman stands in her urban garden on a bright September afternoon, surrounded by abundance. To her left, a massive ash gourd hangs from the vine, its pale green skin dotted with a waxy bloom. She holds a dark woven basket filled with vibrant red, yellow, and green peppers. Fresh leeks with their white stalks and green tops grow beside the ash gourd. The garden flourishes around her, dense with leaves and thriving plants. Blue sky and neighboring houses frame the scene, reminding us that abundance can grow in even a small urban lot when given care.
This signed and numbered archival print will bring the colors of seasonal eating into your space. Picture it in your kitchen, celebrating the joy of growing your own food. Imagine it in your living room, where it starts conversations about urban gardening, sustainability, and the rewards of patience.
“One of my neighbors constructed a large trellis and grew giant gourds like the one shown in this photograph. I became curious and when I asked about it, he gave me some saved seeds! I love how our shared interest in home grown food connected us across cultures. The following summer I grew the seed and was so excited that we were able to grow this 40 lb Ash gourd, that I decided to feature it in a photograph. I included red and yellow peppers from the garden to provide color contrast and balance the right side of the composition against the large size of the main subject on the left side. ”
