Watch the video to learn about the research that inspired the Glacial Waters series
In this body of work I traveled with climate scientists in Peru (White Mountains Region) and in the United States (Glacier National Park) and responded to what I learned from their research. I used a glass vessel filled with glacial melt water as a lens to photograph through. The water within encapsulated and reflected the scenes, creating a visual metaphor to express the fresh water resource issues associated with glacial recession due to climate change. “I continued the “Glacial Waters” series at Glacier National Park in the USA after originating it in Peru. Glacial Waters no. 21 shows a view of distant glaciers from Hidden Lake Trail in Glacier National Park, MT. I had the opportunity to hike with scientist Dan Fagre to observe him conduct research by taking repeat photographs investigate the glacial change over time. What I learned from him about the glaciers’ role in providing fresh water for the landscape influenced my choices of what to photograph in the park.”
