Glacial Waters no. 2

from $750.00

When you're exploring the high mountains, you experience moments that feel intimate and sacred, knowing you're connected to something much bigger than yourself. This artwork features a crystal spherical vessel held in human hands filled with glacial meltwater at 14,000 feet above sea level in Peru. The crystal-clear water reflects the pristine alpine stream and glacier high above on the mountain. It honors the deep interconnection between human care and the fragility of these vital fresh water sources that sustain all life below them. The composition invites you to appreciate the mesmerizing clarity of the glaciated mountain reflected in the glacial meltwater held within the crystal vessel, contrasting with the tawny mountain grasslands and turquoise blue stream stretching beyond in soft focus. Each element works together to express the beauty and fragility of these precious high-altitude ecosystems, where glacial waters flow down from snow-covered peaks to nourish life at every scale.

Glacial Waters no.2 depicts a stream flowing down from the glacier-covered mountain above at about 14000 feet above sea level in Peru. This Glacial Waters project started in Peru with a two week trek into the White Mountains of Peru with a group of researchers led by a team from Ohio State University. This photographic project explores the loss of glaciers in inhabited (non-polar) regions of the world where the glaciers are part of the local hydrology. In this artwork I wanted to capture the role the glaciers play in providing fresh water for the ecosystems and the people who live in the valleys and cities below the mountains.
