Glacial Waters no. 14

from $750.00

Imagine yourself standing in an ancient glacier-carved valley while a geologist carefully records measurements that will help us understand the impacts of climate change. Ivana created Glacial Waters no. 14 in the White Mountains of Peru to express the quiet dedication of scientific research in regions where glacier melt waters feed plants, animals, farms, towns, and rivers. Picture yourself hearing the crunch of gravel under boots and feeling the cool, dry air against your skin as you observe data being gathered in a landscape shaped by ice over millennia. Ivana filled a crystal spherical vessel with the glacial meltwater from a nearby stream, and another researcher held it up to help her capture this scene. Within the reflected image, you can see the survey equipment and notes of the scientist as he records measurements of a glacier that is high in the mountains to the right of the composition. They stood in a valley that was once completely filled by the glacier. The evidence of the glacial retreat is in the rough-textured brown and rust colored stone valley walls where ice ground against them as it retreated. The small human figure contrasts against the vastness of stone and sky. The sharp reflection in the water contrasts with the softly focused rough terrain, expressing dedication and the search for understanding the impacts of climate change in a single frame.

Collectors who value education, stewardship, and long term thinking feel deeply aligned with this message. The piece reinforces your identity as someone who supports knowledge and action rather than denial. It celebrates the partnership between human curiosity and the natural world.

“Glacial Waters no. 14” records a geologist takes survey measurements in an ancient glacier-carved valley below the glacier-covered White Mountains in Peru. I created the photograph to highlight the importance of scientific research in understanding what is happening to glaciers in inhabited (non-polar) regions of the world where the glaciers are part of the local hydrology. These glaciers have been a source of fresh water for millenia but are diminishing due to climate change.
