Watch the video to learn about the research that inspired the Glacial Waters series
In this body of work I traveled with climate scientists in Peru (White Mountains Region) and in the United States (Glacier National Park) and responded to what I learned from their research. I used a glass vessel filled with glacial melt water as a lens to photograph through. The water within encapsulated and reflected the scenes, creating a visual metaphor to express the fresh water resource issues associated with glacial recession due to climate change. When you're exploring the mountains, you discover beauty in unexpected places. This artwork celebrates that moment when you smell delicate wild chives blooming in the foreground while majestic glaciers rise in the distance. It honors the interconnection between the smallest wildflowers and the grandest landscapes, reminding you that the precious fresh water resource held and seasonally released on the landscape by the glaciers supports every living being in the landscape. Lush color reproduction brings to life the vibrant yellow of wildflowers and green stems of wild chives against the dramatic backdrop of glaciers in Glacier National Park, Montana. The composition using water as a lens in the crystal sphere vessel in human hands invites you to appreciate both the intimate detail of the wildflowers and the sweeping majesty of the mountains reflected upside down. Each element works together to express the beauty and fragility of these precious ecosystems, where glacial waters nourish life at every scale.
