When you're exploring the mountains, you experience that moment of tranquil awe where delicate purple wild chive flowers in the foreground draw your eye, their floral chive scent fills your nostrils, and a distant glacier commands your attention on the horizon in Glacier National Park, Montana. This artwork depicts a wild chive blossom in sharp focus within a crystal spherical vessel of water, contrasted against the soft focus of the glacier-capped mountains in the distance. It celebrates the interconnection between the smallest alpine edible plants and the grandest ice formations. It honors that feeling of wonder you experience when surrounded by pristine wilderness, reminding you that every living being and geological feature plays a vital role in the circle of life that sustains us all. The lush color reproduction brings to life the vibrant purple chives blooming in the alpine meadow, harmonizing with the big blue Montana sky. The composition invites you to appreciate both the intimate beauty of the delicate purple blooms swaying in the mountain breeze and the sweeping majesty of the glacier beyond. Each element works together to express the beauty and fragility of these precious ecosystems, where glacial meltwater nourishes life at every scale.

This image depicts wild chive flowers and a distant glacier in Glacier National Park, MT. Since I grow chives in my garden, I instantly recognized the aroma of the wild chives when I walked across this field on the Hidden Lake Trail. It was exciting to discover this edible plant growing high up in the mountains and made me want to capture it in this series. I created the photograph to highlight how the wild food plants in the landcape could be impacted by the loss of the high mountain glaciers due to climate change and the freshwater that they provide to the ecosystem.
