Rhubarb Harvest in June

from $640.00

You grasp an armful of ruby-red rhubarb stalks and hear the satisfying snap as each one breaks cleanly from the crown. Can you imagine the smooth, firm stalks in your arms and the large, ruffled leaves fanning out around you? Picture yourself already tasting that first sweet-tart bite of rhubarb pie, still warm from the oven, or spreading homemade rhubarb jam on morning toast. The abundance is so generous that the fan-like bouquet nearly camouflages the gardener holding it. The white silhouette of stalks and leaves contrasts dramatically against the deep Prussian blue background of this handmade cyanotype print. This artwork expresses the joy of perennial abundance, the perfect match between New England's climate and this generous crop, and the complete cycle from garden to kitchen table.

Imagine this bountiful artwork in your kitchen or dining room, where it celebrates the rewards of growing perennial vegetables that return year after year. Guests who garden share stories of their own rhubarb patches or ask for your best pie recipe, while those who love cooking at farmers markets recognize a kindred spirit. The piece connects to that universal satisfaction of transforming garden abundance into delicious preserves, desserts, and memories. This artwork celebrates nature's reliable generosity and the sweet-tart pleasures that come from nurturing perennial crops.

I was inspired to create this piece because of the joy and gratitude I felt for the abundance of rhubarb my garden provides. I grasped this boutiful bouquet of rhubarb stalks and presented them to my camera to express that feeling of accomplishment mixed with wonder at nature’s generosity. Since I live in New England, the climate is perfect to grow rhubarb. I love the sweet-tart flavor in bakes, jams, cakes, and pies.

This signed and numbered handmade cyanotype contact print is created using the Prussian blue cyanotype process on 65% recycled cotton archival watercolor paper, ensuring both longevity and connection to photographic artistic traditions dating back to the 1840s.  Each cyanotype is hand coated with a hand-crafted light-sensitive iron based emulsion in the darkroom, exposed in UV light, and developed in vinegar water. This process introduces subtle variations in brush marks along the edges and tone that are integral to this historic process. Due to the handmade nature of cyanotype printing, no two prints are exactly identical. The watermark is only for internet display and will not be on your artwork. The artwork comes unframed.  This artwork is available in a limited edition of 15 at 8"x 10", 3 at 20" x 24", 2 at 24" x 30" +1 AP at each size. Each piece is signed and numbered. If you need help to envision how it will look a free digital mockup is available so you can see exactly how it will look in your space before adding it to your collection.
