This group of self portraits and portraits of close friends encompasses exploration of gender identification and sexual orientation during the period of 2000- 2003. I find that since still photography has the ability to capture an expression that is instantaneous and fixes this expression forever, it is an advantageous way to create a portrait or self portrait in which the subject may pass for whatever identity s/he desires. This is not so easy in real life, since the cues for gender and sexual identity are so subtle and nuanced.
