Trekking in the Andes of Peru |

In a few days, I will be leaving on a fantastic journey to climb the mountains of Peru in order to create new artworks about the topic of climate change in this region. I will travel with a team of climate scientists from the Byrd Polar Research Center of Ohio State University and their graduate student research assistants. I will attend a conference in Lima, where strategies of adapting to a world without glaciers will be discussed. Then I will participate in a class with the graduate students about the effects of climate change on the glaciers in Peru and the effects on the environment that the loss will likely bring about. Then I will accompany the researchers on trekking/camping expeditions to the glacier sites, glacier melt water streams and weather stations where they will conduct research. I am looking forward to this opportunity to make artwork of the glaciers and the research activities. I will be using some staging methods to create interpretive images. I will be posting photos from my trip on my fFcebook page and keeping in touch there and when I return I will send out a newsletter with some previews of my artworks.
